Wishing you Christ’s many blessings throughout this joyful season.  May the Lord lift up your heart at Easter and always; and may the miracle of Easter bring you perfect peace.

Keeping traditions alive in Australia since 1981 through dance and music, Mladi Frankopani has brought the Croatian community together for forty years, bringing joy to young and old.

The club has continually operated out of the Croatian Club Punchbowl, Sydney NSW, and thanks its current and past Board members and Club Management for their ongoing support.  The team of dedicated Mladi Frankopani parents and committee members have held over 100 zabavas across its rich 40 year history at Club Punchbowl and will again this year host two zabave.  The first will be held in July with their uniquely themed ‘Božić u Srpnju’ / ‘Christmas in July’; and the second in August, a celebration of the club’s longevity in bringing folkloric dance to the community of Sydney and to all corners of Australia to which they have travelled for four decades.

NSW is one of the most culturally diverse states in the world with more than 307 ancestries.  The team at Mladi Frankopani is driven to promoting community harmony and social cohesion.  Since establishment, it has participated in NSW state and local government multicultural events and has welcomed many folkloric dance groups from other nationalities to their zabave.

They have also provided care and assistance to the Croatian community throughout the years.  Recent examples include supporting the Croatian Community in Gippsland, Victoria during and following the devastating 2020 fires, contributing to the renovation of Croatian Catholic Centre Blacktown also in 2020, and 2021, sending funding to those effected in the Petrinja, Croatia earthquakes; along with supporting many local individuals in need.  These are just some recent examples.  Their generous nature extends a long time back and now crosses to third and fourth generations of Australian Croatians who have been part of the club.

Let’s celebrate!  2021 Zabave.

With major changes to the COVID-19 rules announced by the NSW Government coming into effect Monday 29 March, zabave can now be held with no restrictions on singing or dancing.  Mladi Frankopani are very much looking forward to exceptionally fun and lively zabave in 2021.  Folkor Groups from across NSW and the ACT will perform, and they have terrific popular bands booked for your enjoyment.

Friday Folklore Fun

Mladi Frankopani welcome children of all ages.  Knowing the Croatian language is not a necessity to joining.  The growing club practices on a Friday night at Croatian Club Punchbowl (downstairs hall) and has two age groups.  Juniors dance 7pm – 7.45pm and teenagers dance 7.45pm – 8.30pm.  Dancing is free for 2021.  Identifying through our culture provides our community with access to social networks.  This is especially relevant to our youth.  New dancers will be warmly welcomed and will grow under the guidance of Ruža Sardelić, a talented dance teacher with over 40 years folklore experience.  It’s a great place for our youth to meet new friends and develop their knowledge of our traditions and culture.

Nosnje / Traditional dance costumes

The club has a gallery of beautiful ornate nošnje collected over the past 40 years, many of which have been hand made in Australia by Nada Bagarić and Olga Butković.  They are immensely proud of their treasured extensive range of costumes representing all regions of Croatia and adorned by generations of dancers.

Private parties

Mladi Frankopani’s talented dance group are available to perform at special occasions, and with sufficient notice, can perform a folkloric dance from a chosen region of Croatia.  If you have a wedding or a significant milestone event coming up, please get in contact with the group.  What a terrific way to make your event truly memorable!
