Bocce Empowering Women

Women at the Sydney Bocce Kings always defy expectations every time they take to the court; they demonstrate not only strength but also leadership and strategic thinking.

The Sydney Bocce Kings are empowering women by developing a program titled Women in Bocce for gender equality in the sport.

“Research tells us that playing bocce has wide ranging benefits from building confidence and self esteem to enhancing career prospects, improving health, and wellbeing.

“This plan has given us the opportunity to learn, put research and insight into practice and engage more women and girls in physical activity via bocce.” Explains a proud Sydney Bocce Kings Treasurer, Mrs Silvana Iezza.

40 per cent of the Sydney Bocce Kings members are women, and nearly half are under 30 years of age.

“Our slogan is; Do you best, one shot at a time, and then move on. I’m so proud what we are doing here.

“When I tell my friends the club is of Croatian heritage they’re pleasantly surprised. Leadership is about vision and responsibility at the Kings.” Says Treasurer Iezza.

As bocce’s bid to be admitted to the Olympic games gains momentum the interest of women taking up the sport has seen phenomenal growth in Australia.

“We have many talented women and very soon our club will be the home of Olympic Champions!” Articulates, Sydney Bocce Kings Management Committee.
